Open Air Shakespeare at
Victoria Embankment Gardens, London

Wednesday 3rd to Saturday 6th August 2011

GB Theatre Company are delighted to be performing William Shakespeare's
most famous love story Romeo
& Juliet and the ever popular Twelfth
Night in London's Victoria Embankment Gardens. Starring Gabriel
Thomson (BBC1's My Family) and introducing Lucy Wray,
with a cast of the finest professional actors.
Verona, a city torn apart by an endless struggle between two feuding
families, is left seeking salvation. Amongst a brutality beyond memory,
grows a love beyond existence. The play deals with love conquering hate.
The two lovers are surrounded by an anger and aggression that has lost
all reason. Juliet and Romeo’s love for one another proves stronger than
this loathing. It is the catalyst for the laying down of arms, and leads
both households towards a new era of tolerance.

Victoria Embankment Gardens, London
This is a small but attractively set out garden next to the Victoria Embankment
on the north bank of the Thames. The embankment and gardens were named
after Queen Victoria. On the opposite bank of the river is the Albert
Embankment, named after Victoria’s husband. At the side of the park is
a gateway, built in the 1620’s on the edge of the Thames, to act as a
gateway from the river, to the Duke of Buckingham’s property. The Victoria
Embankment’s construction started in 1865. It was completed in 1870 under
the direction of Joseph Bazalgette. The gardens contain many statues,
including a monument to Bazalgette and a large bandstand, where musical
performances are given.
