Change of Show Director

Friday, 27. January 2012 21:12 | Author:admin

We have to announce that due to other commitments Donnacadh O’Briain has had to withdraw as director for this year’s tour. We are pleased that his new project will be a great opportunity for his talent. We wish him well and look forward to working with him in the future.

We are thrilled to announce that our new director is the well known actor and director, Jack Shepherd. Jack is probably best known for his role as Superintendent Wycliffe in the Police series of that name, this is currently re-running on ITV3. He has a great love of Shakespeare and has directed a number of productions both at the Royal National Theatre and The Globe. We are so pleased that Jack has decided to work with us this year directing The Tempest.

Review of Twelfth Night at Arundel Castle

Wednesday, 31. August 2011 20:07 | Author:admin

Excellent review by Gary Shipton in the West Sussex Gazette:

Chris Porter’s formidable and mesmerising portrayal of Malvolio will ensure that once again GB Theatre Company’s production is as memorable as it is hilariously entertaining. Chris’s was a visual rendition worthy of Rowan Atkinson at his best.

I have gone on record at previous Arundel Festival’s saying that GB has reinvigorated Shakespeare’s works like no other modern touring company. Everything in this production confirmed that view.

GB has the skill to discern the visual comedy and extract it from the dialogue – ensuring that even those who considered Shakespeare a dusty postscript in the literary archive are awakened to the enormous fun that his writing contains.

David Davies is the company manager but also, as ever, brings enormous energy and vitality to the whole proceedings.

In this great pursuit he is most ably supported by the likes of Oliver Cudbill, Suzannah Hampton, Philip Scott-Wallace, Lucy Wray, Mark Carlisle, and Sioned Jones. Special praise for stage manager Martin Hutchinson who stepped so worthily into the role of Sir Andrew Aguecheek following illness within the company.

Cast changes for Arundel Castle shows

Friday, 19. August 2011 8:47 | Author:admin

We are delighted that Actor/Musician Andy Mathys will join us and play violin for us at Arundel Castle. Audiences will remember his hilarious Slender and whimsical Amiens from last years productions of Merry Wives of Windsor and As You Like It. Since last season with GB, Andy has been very fortunate to be touring internationally playing Freddy in a production of Pygmalion, visiting 25 countries, and is delighted to return to GB for Arundel! He remembers last season fondly and is pleased to be back at such an excellent venue.

Our Company Manager David Davies will continue in the role of Mercutio after taking it over in London. He relishes the opportunity to swash buckle at Arundel. Martin Hutchinson proves to be very humorous in the role of Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night which he took over in London.

Musical skills

Friday, 5. August 2011 8:41 | Author:admin

GB Theatre Company would like to thank Emma Darlow for joining them at the Victoria Embankment Gardens in London on Wed 3rd and Sat 6th adding her musical skills to Romeo and Juliet.

Emma started playing the violin aged four. Having trained classically she became a member of the Haringey Youth Orchestra, with whom she toured to South Africa. She later joined the London School Symphony Orchestra (LSSO), touring with them to France and Japan and performing in their regular concerts at the Barbican. Whilst never intending to play violin professionally she has found it hard to put down, becoming part of the gypsy-folk band The Fircones with Brigit Forsyth last year, and recording and gigging with them ever since. She will start an MA in Acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts this September.
